What is Hatha Yoga?

Essentially once we use the word “Yoga” attached to anything, it indicates in the tradition that it is a complete path by itself. Hatha has the word yoga attached to it, that means it is a complete path by itself. In most Indian languages, in common usage, the word “Hatha” means being adamant. This is the quality you will need to take the physical body beyond its present levels of limitations. The deeper and real meaning of the word Hatha is: “ha” means sun, “ta” means moon. When we practice hatha yoga, fundamentally we are trying to get this body into perfect sync with the basis of our physical manifestation, which is the solar system. Hatha Yoga is about creating a body that is not a hurdle in one’s life. The body becomes a stepping stone in one’s progress of blossoming into his ultimate possibility.

Isha Hatha yoga comprises of 5 fundamental practices: Upa Yoga, Angamardana, Surya Kriya, Yogasanas, Bhuta Shuddi. There are other practices like pranayama, guided mediations, Mantra Yoga, Nada Yoga, and much more.
